During this time of year, I always find myself absorbed with the NCAA basketball tournament. I love the magic that comes from teams meeting to compete at the highest levels of the game! I love the stories of underdogs and unexpected heroes! I wait for the stories that emerge – both unexpected and uncommon – that show the grit and determination kids bring to the game when their goals are on the line and expectations are high.
The University of Maryland Baltimore County was one of the great Cinderella stories this year! Ranked 16th, they defeated the #1 team, Virginia, by 20 points! But what I truly love about UMBC is that they are devoted to all students achieving at high levels. UMBC is an honors university with one of the highest rates of diversity in the country achieving at the highest levels. Here is one of my favorite quotes from their president, Freeman Hrabowski III.
“Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they form your character. Watch your character because it shapes your destiny.”
~ Freeman Hrabowski
The Future Readiness Team is excited about putting even stronger systems in place to ensure that every student can have the future he or she deserves and wants! And that all our families know that RRISD is the place where dreams really do come true!
